Pricing
Pay only for what you use.
No subscription. No packs. No monthly fee. Speak Tongues adds up what your conversations cost as you have them, and you settle the tab in the app when it reaches a dollar.
What things cost
Estimates for steady talking, in US dollars. Guests in a group pay nothing: their share is part of the group's cost.
How the tab works
- 1
Use it
Each conversation and each sign adds what it cost to your tab. Nothing is charged up front.
- 2
Keep going until $1
You can start new conversations and translate signs while your tab is under $1.00.
- 3
Pay with one tap
Once it reaches $1.00, the app asks you to pay before you start the next one: one Face ID or fingerprint tap, through Apple or Google.
- 4
The extra stays yours
The stores only sell set amounts, so the payment rounds up to the nearest one. Whatever is left over stays as credit and is used first next time.
An example. Your tab reaches $1.04. The smallest amount the store sells that covers it is $1.99, so you pay $1.99 and $0.95 stays on your account as credit for your next conversations.
The amounts are $0.99, $1.99, $2.99, $4.99, $9.99, $14.99 or $19.99. If you owe more than the largest, the app takes it in more than one payment.
The person who starts it pays
When you start a one-on-one or a group conversation, everything said in it goes on your tab, including what your guests say and hear. Guests pay nothing and need no account.
Never cut off mid-sentence
A conversation that has started is never stopped because of your tab. Instead, each conversation has its own spending limit, $10 unless you change it, and pauses when it gets there.
On the website
You can translate signs here in your browser with the same account. The tab itself is paid in the app, because payments go through Apple and Google.
Refunds
Apple and Google handle every payment, so they handle refunds too: ask Apple or Google Play. If a payment is refunded, its credit comes off your account.
Questions about paying
Why don't you sell a monthly plan?
Because most people translate now and then: on a trip, at a family dinner, when a neighbor drops by. A plan would charge them for months they don't use. With a tab, you pay for the minutes you actually talked.
Can I see what I've spent?
Yes. The app shows what a conversation costs while it runs, and your account lists every charge and payment. You can also see your tab on your account page.
Do I pay in my own currency?
Apple and Google show the price in your own currency and take care of any sales tax or VAT. Your tab and credit are kept in US dollars.
What happens to my credit if I delete my account?
It's deleted with the account and can't be moved or paid out, so use it up first if you can. See deleting your account.
